Creating Extruded cut in Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0

You can use the Extrude tool to remove material by projecting a sketched section normal to the sketching plane. You can use open or closed sections to create a cut. Removing material using a closed section creates a slot. To create a cut, use the same depth options as for extruded protrusions.  
 
This tutorial explains how to create an extruded cut on a solid. Follow the steps as shown below:  
 
1) Let us open a new part file and start creating a sketch. Click on button in the sketch toolbar, to invoke "Rectangle" command or go to "Sketch>>Rectangle" menu and select the command as shown in figure 1. {Follow first 4 steps in "Creating a Sketch - Tutorial for beginners" to learn how to open a new part file.}

2) Now create a rectangle as shown in figure 2. When finished middle click in your mouse to exit rectangle command. Now let us exit sketcher environment by clicking on button in sketcher toolbar. Click on CTRL+D in your keyboard to go to default view.

3) Now click on button in Base Features toolbar to invoke "Extrude" tool or go to "Insert>>Extrude" menu as shown in figure 3.

4) Now select the rectangular sketch that we created as the profile to be extruded and enter the depth as 100 mm in the extrude dialog bar as shown in figure 4. To verify the feature click on button. Once you are satisfied click on button in dialog bar to exit extrude tool.
