Creating a sketch in Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0

Most parts start with a sketch. A sketch is the profile of a feature and any geometry (such as a sweep path or axis of rotation) required to create the feature. Note that all sketch geometry is created and edited in sketch environment. In this tutorial let us learn how to create a simple sketch in Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0. This tutorial is only for beginners and would be of no use to advanced or intermediate user. Follow the steps as shown below:  
 
1) To start a sketch from scratch, open a new part file by clicking the "New" icon as shown in figure 1.

2) After clicking the "New" icon, "New" dialog box appears. Select "Part" radio button under "Type" and then give a name to the file as shown in figure 2 and click ok button.

3) Now select top plane on which we are going to create a sketch. You can either select the plane from model tree or from the work area as shown in figure 3 and figure 4 respectively.
