Step 4
Time to start making of the materials. Click Window > Rendering Editors > Hypershade.

Step 5
Maya’s material factory “Hypershade” window will be opened which is comprised of 3 main parts. On the left side, you will see Create Bar from where you can choose different types of Maya Surface Materials / 2D procedural Textures etc. There are 2 big areas on the right side where the upper portion (Hypershade Top Tab) stores the materials that are already exists (default + newly created) materials in the scene and the lower portion is Working Area which you will use for creating new materials.

Step 6
Lets’ start making our 1st material which we will use for our Flower Pot. Click “Lambert” surface material in the Create Bar. Lambert is a highlightless/non-specular/non-reflective surface material preset.
